The Ryder Cup 2018: the eternal Gulf Duel between America and Europe
On October 2, 2016, the United States of America won the Ryder Cup. For the 26th time, the golfers of the USA were able to stand out their competitors from Europe and receive the golden Trophy. The venue was the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, United States. Because the tournament takes place every two years in turn on a golf course in the USA and Europe, the next edition in the year 2018 is again a European place. And he’ll be in France.
The venue of the Ryder Cup 2018
As host countries for the Ryder Cup 2018, five countries have applied to the deadline: Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and France. Sweden had withdrawn its application shortly before the end of the period. As a German candidate, the Wittelsbach golfclub onwards Rohrenfeld-Neuburg started, but the Spanish square in Tres Cantos was favoured. A surcharge for the Ryder Cup 2018 was to pay tribute to the deserved Spanish golf professional Seve Ballesteros, who was 1997 captain of the European team and died in May 2011. In the end, however, the golf course Le Golf National was selected in the French town of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. In order to finance the application for the Ryder Cup, each golfer in the region donated one euro. The organizers expect the Ryder Cup 2018 to be a rapid increase in active golfers in France, from 400,000 the number of players organized in clubs will increase to 2022 to 700,000. In order to achieve this, more than 100 new places will be created in France in the coming years.
Le Golf National
The course Le Golf National was built between 1987 and 1990 in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, a community near Paris. In October 1990, he was inaugurated by the French Secretary of state for Juniors, family and Sport, Roger Bambuck. Since 1991, the Open de France has been held there on a regular basis, only two times – in the years 1999 and 2001 – the tournament was played in a different place. The resort has a capacity of 80,000 spectators and accommodates a total of three places: the tournament Course “Albatros”, the par-71 course “Aigle” and the 9-hole course “Oiselet”.
The view of the Ryder Cup statistics
Only for the second time ever will the Ryder Cup be held in the year 2018 on a golf course in continental Europe. For a long time the places where the European team carried out their home duels were only in England or Scotland, only in the year 1997 the Valderrama Golf Club in the Spanish of Sotogrande became the venue. At that time, Europe barely won 14 1/2 to 13 1/2 against the United States. The tournament was then held again only in the United States or the British Isles. That is why Europe is still unbeaten outside the UK and Ireland – a statistic that is to be defended 2018 in France. However, a series that lasts much longer will be much more important to the European Golf Pros: Since 1993 the USA has not been able to win in Europe. Thus, in five Ryder Cup editions, which are played on their own continent, Europeans are in succession without defeat.
The most important part of the Ryder Cup
The Ryder Cup is a tournament that was held since 1927, in which professional golfers from the United States and Great Britain played against each other. From 1973, Irish golfers also belonged to the UK team, since 1979 players from all over Europe compete against the USA. Each team consists of twelve players, the mode of the Ryder Cup looks like a duel “man Against Man”. In three days – from Friday to Sunday – a total of 28 matches will take place, with one victory bringing a point for the winning team. The 42 edition of the Ryder Cup will take place from 28th to 30th September 2018.
